NSF Energy Storage Engine Partner Viridi Achieves Major Safety Certification for Battery Energy Storage System

Safety is one of the most critical barriers to widespread battery energy storage adoption, and one of the NSF Energy Storage Engine’s partners just cleared it in a significant way.
Viridi, an Engine partner has achieved UL 9540 Listing for its RPSLinkIN 480V battery energy storage system, validated by TÜV Rheinland. For those outside the industry, UL 9540 is one of the most recognized and rigorous safety standards for energy storage systems in North America. Earning it is not a formality; it requires extensive testing and independent validation that a system can operate safely in real-world environments.
For Viridi, this certification is the result of what their technology was engineered to do from day one: operate without any risk of thermal runaway in occupied residential, commercial and mission-critical settings.
🔹 No fire
🔹 No smoke or gas
🔹 No heat propagation to adjacent packs
And meets all criteria as required by 9540A Slab Mount Residential Test. The result: a battery system that can be deployed without additional fire suppression or secondary construction, unlocking all possibilities for distributed energy, virtual power plants (VPPs), and behind the meter storage for critical infrastructure. This milestone reflects the kind of progress the NSF Energy Storage Engine exists to support.
